I joined the board of a nonprofit here in town called Lights.Camera.Help. a little over a year ago. This is an organization that encourages other nonprofits to utilize film and video to spread the word about their causes. LCH does this by way of education, volunteer match programs, screenings and a film festival. For the last couple years they have held a full fledged film festival for nonprofits and cause driven films, and this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever, complete with screenings, awards ceremonies, red carpets and a musical band.
The reason I talk about this is because LCH is now taking submissions for their film festival this fall. They are seeking PSAs, short films and features that focus on good. If your favorite cause has a film that highlights the work being done to make the world a better place community, Lights. Camera. Help. wants to see it.
As I mentioned earlier there will be awards and LCH expects to give out a total of around $5,000 to the causes represented in the winning films this year. They are accepting films through June 30. The official selections will be announced by the end of July and the festival will take place at the Spirit of Texas Theater at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas on September 12-14.
Go to http://www.lightscamerahelp.org/entry submit your videos by June 30th. If you don’t have a film, but know somebody who is, spread the word!
